‘Kalki 2898 AD’ surpasses lifetime collections of Tiger Zinda Hai, Padmaavat and Sanju
Kalki 2898 AD, the highly anticipated sci-fi action film starring Prabhas, has taken the box office by storm, shattering records previously held by blockbusters like Tiger Zinda Hai, Padmaavat, and Sanju.
The film, directed by Nag Ashwin, grossed an impressive ₹345.88 crore at the Indian box office in its first 6 days of release. This feat is even more remarkable considering it surpassed the lifetime collections of films like Tiger Zinda Hai (₹339 crore), Padmaavat (₹302 crore), and Sanju (₹342 crore) in just 5 days.
Kalki 2898 AD’s opening day collection of ₹95.3 crore was the third highest first-day gross for an Indian film, with over ₹95 crore coming from the domestic market alone. The film went on to earn an estimated ₹484 crore worldwide in its opening weekend, debuting at third place globally behind Inside Out 2 and A Quiet Place: Day One.
Overseas, the film has also made a significant impact, grossing over $11.2 million (₹93.35 crore) in North America alone, the biggest opening weekend for an Indian movie in the region. It has also become the all-time highest-grossing Telugu film in Canada, surpassing the previous record holder, Salaar.
The film’s success has been attributed to its grand scale, impressive visual effects, and the star power of Prabhas, who has already established himself as one of the biggest draws in Indian cinema. The positive word-of-mouth and strong pre-release buzz have also contributed to the film’s remarkable performance.
With a sequel already in the works and plans for a larger “Kalki Cinematic Universe”, the future looks bright for this ambitious sci-fi franchise. Prabhas and the team behind Kalki 2898 AD have undoubtedly set a new benchmark for Indian cinema’s global reach and commercial potential.
