A key parliamentary panel will meet representatives of numerous technology firms, e-commerce competitors and gaming entities, including Flipkart and Zomato on 20th July to discuss their market behavior amidst rising anti-competition concerns.
In present times, there have been objections about alleged anti-competitive ways of numerous tech firms.
Jayant Sinha, BJP leader and former Union Minister, conducted the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance and has been looking into different aspects of competition in the marketplace, mostly with respect to technology majors.
Jayant told PTI that the panel has decided to ask representatives of various tech firms, e-commerce players and gaming entities to appear before it soon, and they will be mostly asked about their market behavior.
Sinha said, Representatives of food delivery platforms Zomato and Swiggy e-commerce player Flipkart, cab aggregator Ola, hotel aggregator Oyo and All India Gaming Association are among those who will be called by the panel.
As per the notice available on the Lok Sabha website, the committee will be hearing “views of representatives of associations/ industry stakeholders on the subject Anti-Competitive Practices by Big-tech companies” on 21st July.
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) is already looking into different cases, especially in the digital space, following complaints of alleged unjust business practices.
The CCI made a presentation about competition aspects in the marketplace to the parliamentary panel on 28th April.
Jayant Sinha had said the panel had “an excellent set of discussions’ ‘ with officers from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and CCI, after the meeting.
